New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday alleged that around 40–50 opposition Members of Parliament had forcibly entered the Speaker’s chamber shortly before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to address Parliament, escalating tensions during the ongoing session.

Speaking to reporters, Rijiju described the incident as “unprecedented” and accused the opposition of disrupting parliamentary decorum. He said the MPs entered the Speaker’s chamber despite repeated appeals to maintain order and allow the House to function smoothly. According to the minister, the incident took place at a sensitive moment, just ahead of the Prime Minister’s address, raising serious concerns about security and the dignity of parliamentary institutions.

Rijiju asserted that the government was willing to engage in discussion on issues raised by the opposition but would not tolerate what he termed as “intimidation and disorder.” He urged opposition leaders to resolve differences through debate on the floor of the House rather than resorting to confrontational actions.

Opposition parties, however, defended their move, claiming they were compelled to approach the Speaker directly after their demands for a discussion on key issues were repeatedly ignored. They alleged that the government was using its majority to sideline dissenting voices and avoid accountability.

The incident further deepened the standoff between the treasury benches and the opposition, with proceedings in both Houses witnessing repeated disruptions. Parliamentary sources indicated that the Speaker has taken note of the developments and may review the matter to ensure that such incidents do not recur.

As the session continues, the confrontation underscores the growing strain in Parliament, with both sides blaming each other for the breakdown of order and loss of valuable legislative time.
