A Kanpur court on Wednesday granted bail to Shivam Mishra, the accused in the widely discussed luxury car crash case that had sparked public outrage in the city. The incident involved a high-end vehicle allegedly driven recklessly, resulting in injuries and significant property damage.
According to police officials, the accident occurred late at night when the luxury car reportedly lost control and rammed into pedestrians and roadside structures. Several people were injured in the crash and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities had registered a case against Mishra under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rash and negligent driving.
During the bail hearing, the defence counsel argued that the accused had cooperated with investigators and was not attempting to evade the legal process. The lawyer also stated that Mishra had no prior criminal record and was willing to comply with all court conditions.
The prosecution opposed the plea, citing the seriousness of the offence and the public safety concerns arising from reckless driving. However, after hearing both sides, the court granted bail with strict conditions. The accused has been directed to appear before the investigating officer whenever required and not influence witnesses related to the case.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is still ongoing and statements of witnesses are being recorded. They added that forensic examination of the vehicle and CCTV footage analysis will play a key role in determining the exact sequence of events.
The case has drawn attention across the city, with residents demanding stricter enforcement of traffic rules and accountability in reckless driving incidents. Further hearings are expected as the investigation progresses.
