Dubai/Abu Dhabi: Air defense systems in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar were activated after missiles reportedly launched from Iran headed toward the Gulf region, prompting warnings of incoming projectiles and emergency interception measures.
Authorities in the UAE confirmed that their defense systems detected multiple ballistic missiles and drones approaching the country’s airspace. Several of the incoming threats were intercepted before reaching their targets, preventing major damage in the densely populated cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Qatar also reported that its air defense forces successfully intercepted missiles aimed at the country. Officials said the defensive response neutralized the threats before they could cause significant harm, though security forces remain on high alert amid the ongoing regional tensions.
The missile alerts come as the Middle East conflict involving Iran and its regional rivals continues to escalate. Gulf nations have strengthened their air defense systems in recent days after repeated missile and drone launches across the region. In previous attacks, the UAE reported intercepting dozens of missiles and drones, with most destroyed mid-air.
Military officials in both countries said surveillance systems detected the projectiles early, allowing rapid deployment of interception systems. Authorities urged residents to remain calm while security agencies monitor the situation closely.
International concern is rising as the conflict spreads beyond the initial battle zones, threatening major Gulf cities and global energy routes. Several allied nations have increased military support and surveillance in the region to help defend Gulf airspace and maintain stability.
Despite the successful interceptions, officials warned that the situation remains volatile and further attacks cannot be ruled out as tensions continue across the Middle East.
