MUMBAI – In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood fandom, filmmaker Rohit Shetty has officially announced the fifth installment of his iconic comedy franchise, Golmaal, with a massive casting twist. Marking Shetty’s 52nd birthday, the makers released a high-energy announcement video on Saturday, confirming that “Khiladi” Akshay Kumar is officially joining the “Golmaal” gang.
A Bold New Avatar
The highlight of the announcement was Akshay Kumar’s dramatic entry. Sporting a striking bald look, a black kurta-pyjama, and dark sunglasses, the actor’s new avatar has already become a talking point on social media. Fans were quick to draw comparisons to his legendary comic character “Bala,” with many predicting that his inclusion will take the franchise’s humor to a whole new level.
The Return of the Original ‘Laxman’
The surprises didn’t end with Akshay. The teaser also confirmed the return of Sharman Joshi, who played the fan-favorite character Laxman in the original 2006 film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited. After nearly two decades, Sharman reunites with the OG squad—Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Kemmu, and Tusshar Kapoor.
“Koi Franchise Nahi Chhodta”: Ajay Devgn’s Hilarious Welcome
In the behind-the-scenes video, Ajay Devgn is seen jokingly teasing Akshay Kumar about his habit of joining every major film universe, saying, “Koi bhi franchise nahi chhodta hai ye” (He doesn’t leave any franchise). The camaraderie between the two superstars, who have previously shared the screen in action films like Sooryavanshi and Khakee, is set to be a major draw for Golmaal 5.
Filming and Release Details
Sharing the video on Instagram, Akshay Kumar wrote: “Happy Birthday Rohit! On your birthday, the madness just got bigger and louder. Excited to be joining this crazy family of Golmaal 5! Let the chaos begin!”
According to industry sources, Akshay has reportedly allocated 18 days for his role in the film, which is said to revolve around a chaotic hunt for a hidden treasure. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Golmaal 5 has officially gone on floors and is slated for a massive theatrical release in early 2027, coinciding with the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
With the combined comic timing of Akshay Kumar and the seasoned Golmaal cast, the “blockbuster loading” signs are already flashing bright for the audience.
