DIHA/TALSARI – The Bengali entertainment industry is in a state of profound shock following the sudden and tragic demise of popular actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. The 43-year-old actor passed away on Sunday afternoon after a drowning incident at Talsari beach, located on the border of West Bengal and Odisha.
The Incident
Rahul was at the seaside location for the filming of his ongoing television serial, ‘Bhole Baba Par Karega’. According to eyewitnesses and co-stars, the day’s shoot had just concluded around 3:00 PM. Reports suggest that the actor had gone toward the water—some sources say he was on a speedboat while others indicate he stepped into the sea for a dip—when he suddenly went missing.
Crew members and local bystanders launched an immediate search after realizing he had not resurfaced. After nearly an hour of frantic searching, his body was recovered from the water.
Medical Response
The actor was rushed to a hospital in Digha, where doctors unfortunately declared him “brought dead.” While preliminary reports point to drowning as the cause of death, authorities are also investigating whether a sudden medical emergency, such as a cardiac arrest, occurred while he was in the water. An official autopsy report is awaited to confirm the exact cause.
Tributes Pour In
The news of his passing has sent ripples of grief through Tollywood. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deepest condolences, describing Rahul as a “distinguished, young, and popular actor” whose loss is “irreparable.”
“I am shocked and deeply saddened,” the Chief Minister said in a statement. “He was one of my favorite actors and a person I truly admired.”
A Stellar Career
Born Arunoday Banerjee, the actor was widely known by his screen name, Rahul. He began his journey in theater as a child artist and rose to immense fame with the film Chirodini Tumi Je Amar. Over the years, he became a household name through numerous successful films and television projects.
Rahul is survived by his wife, actress Priyanka Sarkar, and their 13-year-old son, Shohoj. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and are currently questioning the production team and eyewitnesses to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
