JAMNAGAR — Combining the scales of a grand family celebration with a historic philanthropic milestone, Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, marked his 31st birthday today with the official launch of Vantara University.
The event, held in Jamnagar, Gujarat, was a star-studded affair that saw industry titans and Bollywood A-listers come together to honor Anant’s vision for the world’s first integrated global university dedicated to wildlife conservation and veterinary sciences.
A Foundation Rooted in Tradition
The day began with a solemn foundation ceremony conducted according to Hindu traditions. In a symbolic gesture of national unity, soil, water, and stones were brought from diverse regions across India—stretching from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari.
Further nodding to India’s heritage, the university’s foundation was set with Bijoliya sandstone, the same material linked to the historic Nalanda University. “The future of conservation depends on how we prepare minds to serve life with compassion,” Anant Ambani remarked during the ceremony.
Star-Studded Birthday Bash
The atmosphere shifted from the academic to the celebratory as evening fell. Videos circulating on social media captured a joyous birthday party where the Ambani family was joined by stars like Ranveer Singh, Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Shikhar Pahariya.
The Highlights of the Celebration Included:
The “Book” Cake: Anant cut a massive, book-themed cake that featured text highlighting Vantara University’s mission, emphasizing that “nature meets knowledge.”
Family Moments: Heartwarming footage showed Mukesh Ambani feeding cake to his daughter-in-law, Radhika Merchant, and sharing an emotional hug with Anant.
A Musical Jam: Ranveer Singh was seen leading a high-energy jam session, performing “Dooba Dooba” alongside singer Mohit Chauhan, while other guests participated in traditional Garba dances.
Traditional Attire: Anant kept it casual yet symbolic in a navy blue polo featuring a golden leopard emblem, while Radhika Merchant radiated in a traditional orange and gold kurta set.
A Vision for the Future
Vantara University is set to be more than just a campus; it is designed as a premier academic ecosystem. Drawing from the on-ground expertise of the existing Vantara wildlife rescue initiative, the university will offer undergraduate, postgraduate, and fellowship programs in disciplines ranging from wildlife surgery and epidemiology to conservation policy.
In a generous move to mark the occasion, Anant also announced the “Every Life Matters” scholarships, aimed at supporting students from socially and economically marginalized backgrounds.
Beyond the Jamnagar festivities, the celebration echoed across the country. In Mumbai, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link was illuminated with a special birthday tribute, while at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in Odisha, students formed a massive human display of the Vantara logo to express their gratitude for the new educational opportunities.
As the birthday celebrations conclude, the launch of Vantara University stands as a testament to Anant Ambani’s dual passion for animals and the empowerment of the next generation of Indian conservationists.
