Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir:
One year after the devastating attack in Pahalgam that claimed multiple lives and shattered families, survivors and relatives gathered to remember those they lost, reflecting on a tragedy that continues to cast a long shadow over their lives.
On the anniversary, emotional scenes unfolded as families visited memorial sites, offered prayers, and shared stories of loved ones who never returned home. Many described the past year as an unending struggle with grief, trauma, and unanswered questions.
“We have been through hell,” said one bereaved family member, holding back tears. “Every day feels incomplete without them. Time has passed, but the pain hasn’t faded.”
The attack, which had shocked the nation, left deep scars not only on the victims’ families but also on the local community. Residents of Pahalgam recalled the chaos and fear that gripped the area, once known primarily as a peaceful tourist destination.
Authorities organized a small remembrance ceremony, with officials paying tribute to the victims and reiterating their commitment to justice and security. Security measures in the region have since been strengthened, but for many families, closure remains elusive.
Psychologists note that anniversaries of traumatic events often reignite grief, making it particularly difficult for survivors to move forward. Several families have sought counseling, while others rely on community support to cope.
Despite the pain, some families expressed a determination to honor the memory of their loved ones by staying strong. “We cannot change what happened,” another relative said, “but we can ensure they are never forgotten.”
As candles were lit and prayers echoed through the valley, the anniversary served as a solemn reminder of loss, resilience, and the enduring hope for peace.
