In a significant move to strengthen its presence in the Indian electric vehicle market, Tesla has launched a new six-seater variant of its popular SUV, the Tesla Model Y, priced at ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The introduction of the Model Y L marks Tesla’s effort to cater to Indian families seeking spacious and premium electric mobility options.
The Model Y L features a redesigned cabin layout with three rows of seating, allowing it to accommodate up to six passengers comfortably. The second-row captain seats provide enhanced legroom and comfort, making it more suitable for long-distance travel—a key consideration for Indian buyers.
In terms of performance, the six-seater Model Y retains Tesla’s signature electric powertrain, offering quick acceleration, smooth handling, and a competitive driving range on a single charge. While official India-specific range figures are yet to be detailed, the global variants of the Model Y are known for delivering over 500 km on a full charge, depending on configuration.
The vehicle comes equipped with advanced technology features, including Tesla’s minimalist touchscreen interface, over-the-air software updates, and advanced driver assistance systems. Safety remains a highlight, with multiple airbags, collision avoidance systems, and a strong structural design.
Industry analysts see this launch as a strategic step by Tesla to tap into India’s growing demand for premium electric SUVs. The addition of a six-seater configuration could help the brand differentiate itself in a competitive segment currently dominated by luxury automakers transitioning to electric mobility.
Bookings for the Model Y L are expected to begin soon, with deliveries likely to follow in the coming months. With this launch, Tesla continues to signal its long-term commitment to the Indian market, aligning with the country’s push toward cleaner and sustainable transportation.
