A bulk carrier sailing near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz reportedly came under attack, according to the United Kingdom’s maritime security authorities, highlighting rising risks to global shipping amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), part of the British military, said the vessel was attacked by multiple small craft while navigating waters near Sirik, Iran. The incident occurred as the ship was travelling northbound, approximately 11 nautical miles from the Iranian coast.
Despite the assault, all crew members aboard the vessel were reported safe, and no environmental damage was recorded. Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, though no group has claimed responsibility so far.
The UKMTO issued a warning to ships operating in the region, urging heightened vigilance and advising vessels to report any suspicious activity immediately.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of maritime security threats in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global النفط shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Since the outbreak of the Iran war, multiple vessels have reported attacks or disruptions, severely impacting shipping traffic.
Tensions in the region remain high, with Iranian authorities asserting control over the waterway and suggesting that certain vessels may face restrictions or conditions for safe passage.
The situation underscores increasing concerns over the safety of commercial shipping lanes and the broader economic implications, as instability in the Strait of Hormuz continues to threaten global energy supplies and trade routes.
