Mumbai commuters and households will have to bear additional fuel expenses after city gas distributors announced a hike in compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped natural gas (PNG) prices. The price of CNG has been increased by ₹2 per kilogram, while piped natural gas rates have also been revised upward.
The latest revision comes amid fluctuations in global energy markets and rising input costs for gas suppliers. Following the increase, motorists who rely on CNG-powered vehicles, including taxis, auto-rickshaws, and private cars, are expected to see a rise in their daily transportation expenses.
Households using piped natural gas for cooking will also experience higher monthly utility bills. Industry experts say the revision reflects increasing procurement costs and efforts by distributors to maintain supply stability.
Gas companies stated that despite the hike, natural gas remains a more economical and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fuels such as petrol and diesel. However, consumer groups have expressed concern over the growing burden of fuel costs on families already dealing with inflationary pressures.
The revised rates have come into effect immediately, with authorities advising consumers to check updated pricing details through their respective gas service providers.
