KARACHI — A major militant assault targeting a paramilitary facility in Pakistan’s commercial hub of Karachi on Saturday evening left three Sindh Rangers personnel and three suspected terrorists dead, local officials and media reported.
The coordinated attack began with a loud explosion near the gates of the local headquarters of the Pakistan Rangers, an elite paramilitary force, before heavily armed assailants opened fire, triggering intense, prolonged gun battles.
Coordinated Attack Triggers Chaos
According to initial eyewitness accounts and local broadcasters ARY News and Geo News, the blast occurred close to the Mosamiat Chowrangi area. The targeted facility sits along a major thoroughfare in proximity to several universities and the Pakistan Meteorological Department, sparking immediate panic among residents and students.
Heavy gunfire echoed across the neighborhood for over an hour as special security units, including the Rapid Response Force and specialized police commandos, rushed to the scene to reinforce the besieged Rangers.
Security Forces Neutralize Threat
The Inspector General of Sindh Police, Javed Alam Odho, confirmed that law enforcement and paramilitary units successfully secured the locality after a fierce shootout.
“Initial reports indicate that three Rangers personnel bravely laid down their lives, and all three of the attacking terrorists were eliminated during the retaliatory operation,” authorities stated.
Emergency medical teams from the Edhi Foundation mobilized quickly during the active shooter situation, transporting multiple injured individuals to nearby hospitals. Armed service personnel completely cordoned off surrounding streets and arterial roads to execute a sweeping search operation for any potential facilitators.
Government Response
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah issued an immediate statement confirming he had taken formal notice of the security breach. He directed senior police officials to ensure all necessary tactical measures were implemented to restore absolute control over the sector.
No militant group has immediately claimed responsibility for the deadly ambush. Investigations by counter-terrorism departments are actively underway to identify the perpetrators and determine the exact nature of the explosive device used to breach the perimeter.
