NEW DELHI — A woman lost her life after being struck by a high-speed luxury vehicle near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the national capital. Police have detained the driver of the speeding BMW involved in the fatal incident.
The accident took place along a busy arterial stretch leading toward the airport terminals. According to eyewitnesses and initial police reports, the victim was attempting to cross the road when the high-end sedan, allegedly being driven at excessive speed, hit her with severe impact. The force of the collision flung the victim several meters away, inflicting critical multi-trauma injuries.
Passersby and traffic personnel rushed to the scene immediately following the crash. The woman was transported to the nearest hospital in critical condition, where doctors later pronounced her dead on arrival. Her identity is being verified, and authorities are in the process of contacting her family members.
The driver of the BMW attempted to flee the scene following the collision, but local police teams, aided by quick-acting witnesses and surveillance networks, managed to intercept the vehicle and apprehend the individual shortly after.
The vehicle has been impounded for forensic analysis. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning rash driving, causing death by negligence, and failure to assist an accident victim.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the airport corridor to map the vehicle’s speed and determine whether driving under the influence or distracted driving played a role. Further legal proceedings and an official post-mortem examination are underway.
