Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of insulting the national song Vande Mataram during Independence Day celebrations. He said the party must apologise to the nation for what he described as a “disrespectful act” toward a symbol deeply associated with India’s freedom struggle.
Speaking at a public event, Shah asserted that “Vande Mataram is not just a song but an emotion that inspired countless freedom fighters during the independence movement.” He alleged that certain actions and statements by Congress leaders during Independence Day observances amounted to an insult to the spirit of the song and, by extension, the nation.
