NEW DELHI, Sept 1, 2026 — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I home series against Afghanistan. The big news is the return of India’s premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, who comes back into the fold after being sidelined by a knee injury sustained earlier this year. His inclusion, along with several other key players, remains subject to final fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the side as captain, with Tilak Varma stepping in as his deputy. Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy have also earned recalls, rejoining the squad after missing the recent tour to Zimbabwe. The selectors have also kept faith in 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who recently made headlines with his explosive performances.
Meanwhile, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is a notable absentee as he continues his recovery from a quadriceps injury. The entire three-match series will be hosted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on September 13, 15, and 17.
