Telangana is preparing for heavy rainfall as Cyclone Murasu moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for two districts and an orange alert for three other districts for November 3. Authorities have been advised to remain alert as the approaching storm could bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to several parts of the state.
The cyclone is expected to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur around midnight on November 2 or during the early hours of November 3. Its impact is also likely to be felt in neighbouring Telangana.
Red Alert in Two Telangana Districts
According to the latest weather bulletin, the IMD has issued a red alert for Nalgonda and Nagarkurnool districts. These areas may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations.
A red alert indicates a serious weather situation and warns people to take necessary precautions. Heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas and disruption to normal activities.
Orange Alert in Three More Districts
The weather department has also issued an orange alert for three districts of Telangana. These include:
Suryapet
Mahabubnagar
Wanaparthy
These districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on November 3. Residents have been advised to stay updated with weather information and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain.
Yellow Alert Across Several Districts
Apart from the red and orange alerts, a yellow alert has been issued for several other districts.
These include Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal.
Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also expected in some areas. The weather conditions could affect road travel and daily activities, particularly in places that receive continuous rainfall.
Hyderabad Weather Forecast
Hyderabad is also likely to experience cloudy weather over the next 24 hours. According to the weather department, moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may occur in some parts of the city, especially during the evening and night.
The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may be close to 23 degrees Celsius.
Cyclone Murasu: What Should People Do?
As Cyclone Murasu approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast, residents of Telangana should remain cautious. People living in low-lying areas should be particularly careful because heavy rainfall may cause waterlogging and local flooding.
Residents should avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms. They should also stay away from flooded roads and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
Farmers and people involved in outdoor activities should keep track of weather updates before making travel or work-related decisions.
The situation may change depending on the cyclone’s movement and intensity. The IMD is expected to continue monitoring the system and issue further updates as necessary. Residents are advised to follow official weather warnings and take precautions to stay safe.
