NEW DELHI — Continuing a heartfelt annual practice, Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that he will celebrate Diwali with members of the Indian armed forces this year, while sending warm festive greetings to citizens across the country.
Standing Shoulder to Shoulder with Jawans
Since taking office in 2014, Prime Minister Modi has spent every Diwali alongside soldiers deployed at border posts, naval bases, and high-altitude stations. Reaffirming the custom, he stated that spending the festival with India’s defenders has become a deeply personal tradition.
While the exact military base for this year’s visit remains undisclosed for security reasons, the Prime Minister highlighted that the festival is an opportunity to express the entire nation’s gratitude to the troops who guard the borders day and night.
Warm Greetings to the Nation
Extending his best wishes to people across India, PM Modi reflected on the deeper meaning of Diwali as a triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair.
“May Diwali illuminate every home with happiness, harmony, and prosperity. May this festive season inspire us to spread kindness, embrace positivity, and work towards a brighter future,” he shared in his message.
He noted that the rows of lamps lit in homes across towns and villages reflect India’s collective resolve to overcome challenges and build a strong, self-reliant future.
A Decade-Long Tradition of Bonding
Over the past decade, the Prime Minister has shared sweets, stories, and festive meals with troops stationed in some of the country’s most challenging terrains — from the snow-covered heights of Jammu and Kashmir to coastal naval ships and remote border outposts in Gujarat.
For soldiers posted far away from their families during the holidays, the Prime Minister’s annual visit brings a festive touch and a strong reminder that the entire nation stands behind them.
