Panaji, Goa – In a historic moment marked by grand celebrations and spiritual fervour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled a 77-foot statue of Lord Ram in Goa, now recognized as the tallest Ram statue in the world. The monumental structure, installed atop a specially designed pedestal, stands as a new landmark symbolising India’s deep-rooted cultural heritage and devotion.
The unveiling ceremony took place at a newly developed riverfront cultural complex in South Goa, where thousands of devotees, local residents, and dignitaries gathered to witness the significant event. The statue, crafted by leading Indian sculptors over several years, depicts Lord Ram in a standing posture holding a bow, representing courage, virtue, and righteousness.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the statue reflects India’s timeless values and the unifying power of Lord Ram’s teachings. He emphasised that the monument would not only boost tourism in Goa but also inspire future generations to uphold ideals of harmony, justice, and national pride.
“This statue of Prabhu Shri Ram is a tribute to our civilizational ethos,” the Prime Minister said. “It will serve as a beacon of devotion and strength for people across the country and the world.”
Goa Chief Minister and other state leaders extended their gratitude to the Centre for supporting the project, which they said would bring global attention to Goa’s spiritual and cultural landscape, beyond its well-known beaches and tourism attractions.
The state government has also planned a series of cultural programs, light-and-sound shows, and devotional events at the site to make it a year-round attraction. Special facilities including viewing galleries, landscaped gardens, and a visitor centre have been created to accommodate the expected rise in footfall.
With the installation of the 77-foot statue, Goa now joins the list of India’s major Ram-themed destinations, adding a new dimension to religious tourism. Devotees and tourists alike are expected to flock to the site in the coming months, especially during festivals such as Ram Navami and Diwali.
The unveiling marks a significant addition to India’s growing collection of iconic monuments celebrating its rich spiritual legacy.
