India Cruises to Dominant Victory Over South Africa in 3rd ODI: Jaiswal’s Maiden Century Steals the Show

Source The Indian Express

Visakhapatnam, India – India sealed a commanding victory in the decisive third One Day International against South Africa, defeating the visitors by nine wickets to clinch the series. The match was a spectacle of power-hitting and astute batting, highlighted by a sensational maiden ODI century from young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, well-supported by crucial fifties from veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Jaiswal Announces Arrival on ODI Stage

The star of the night was undoubtedly 23-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal. Chasing a modest target set by the South Africans, Jaiswal played a blistering, yet mature, knock, reaching triple figures for the first time in his fledgling ODI career. His innings was a masterclass in controlled aggression, peppered with elegant boundaries and towering sixes that deflated the South African bowling attack early on. The left-hander finished with a spectacular, unbeaten 108 runs.

Veteran Stars Lay the Foundation

Before Jaiswal took center stage, the chase was expertly set up by the experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, played a quick-fire innings at the top, ensuring India got off to a flying start. His aggressive 55 runs included several trademark pull shots and lofted drives, silencing any early pressure.

Virat Kohli provided the necessary anchor, continuing his sublime form. Batting at number three, Kohli crafted a measured and fluent 62 runs, rotating the strike effectively and punishing loose deliveries. His partnership with Jaiswal was instrumental in breaking the back of the chase.

Kohli eventually departed after achieving his fifty, but the job was effectively done, leaving Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer to complete the formalities with ease.

South Africa Falters with the Bat

Earlier in the day, South Africa struggled to post a competitive total, primarily due to consistent pressure from the Indian bowlers. While a couple of middle-order batsmen showed brief resistance, the team could not build any substantial partnerships, eventually being restricted to a below-par score. The Indian bowlers, particularly the spinners, capitalized on the helpful conditions, making run-scoring a laborious task for the Proteas.

This convincing nine-wicket victory ensures India claims the three-match ODI series, marking a fantastic team effort and a memorable occasion for Yashasvi Jaiswal as he notches his first ODI hundred.
