New Delhi, December 10 — The owners of the Goa-based nightclub that was recently engulfed in a devastating fire, Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra, have approached a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail amid an ongoing investigation into alleged safety violations at the establishment.
The application was filed on Tuesday, with the Luthra brothers contending that they are being falsely implicated and that the fire was an accident rather than a result of negligence. Their plea argued that they have cooperated with authorities and pose no risk of tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.
The nightclub, located in a popular coastal belt of North Goa, caught fire late last month, prompting a swift response from local fire services. While no fatalities were reported, the blaze caused significant property damage and raised concerns over the venue’s compliance with fire-safety norms. Goa Police subsequently registered a case under sections related to endangering human life and negligence.
Officials noted that preliminary findings suggested multiple lapses, including overcrowding and lack of adequate emergency exits. Following the incident, authorities intensified inspections across nightlife hotspots in the region, leading to temporary shutdowns of several establishments.
The court is expected to hear the Luthra brothers’ bail plea later this week. Meanwhile, Goa Police continue to record statements from staff, patrons, and safety officers to determine responsibility for the incident.
The fire has sparked renewed debate about safety standards in Goa’s nightlife industry, with many calling for stricter enforcement and regular audits to prevent similar incidents in the future.
