Mumbai: Veteran actor Anupam Kher has delivered a glowing review of the action-thriller ‘Dhurandhar,’ directed by Aditya Dhar, describing the Ranveer Singh-starrer as “unbelievably amazing” and a “triumph for Indian cinema.” The praise was so effusive that Kher jokingly questioned the director’s sanity in a phone call following the screening.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Kher lauded the film for its powerful storytelling and its patriotic theme. He specifically mentioned his humorous exchange with Aditya Dhar, revealing the light-hearted intensity of his reaction.
“I do not know whether I should say this,” Kher shared, “I told Aditya on the phone, ‘Mata chadh gayi hai kya? Itni kamaal ki film banaayi hai!’ (Have you gone mad? You have made such a brilliant film!)” Kher noted that the director “laughed a lot” in response.
The ‘Saaransh’ actor described ‘Dhurandhar’ as a “daring, fearless, big-hearted and powerful film” that pays a crucial tribute to India’s unsung national heroes.
“This film is also a triumph for Indian cinema! A story about unknown and faceless Indians who are constantly risking their lives for us! Jai Ho! Jai Hind!” Kher wrote in his post.
He reserved special praise for the lead actors, highlighting the entire ensemble including R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and especially Akshaye Khanna. Kher also commended Ranveer Singh for his intense and quiet performance, stating it takes “huge confidence” for a star to play a role with such reserved power in a commercial film.
Kher emphasized the film’s national relevance, appreciating how it “beautifully” weaves together past incidents in India and the role of the neighboring country, all while maintaining a balanced mix of emotion and reality.
The appreciation comes as ‘Dhurandhar’ continues its successful run at the box office, marching towards the ₹200 crore milestone in its first week. Kher concluded his message by congratulating the team and sharing a personal note: the film’s title, ‘Dhurandhar,’ was originally a title belonging to the late legendary actor and director, Satish Kaushik.
