In a massive box office victory that signals a major shift in the overseas Indian cinema market, Ranveer Singh’s latest release, Dhurandhar, has successfully dethroned SS Rajamouli’s epic blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. The Aditya Dhar-directed film has officially set a new benchmark for the highest second Friday collection for an Indian movie in North America.
According to early evening trends, Dhurandhar crossed the USD 830,000 mark on its second Friday, narrowly surpassing the long-standing record of USD 828,000 previously held by the Prabhas-starrer Baahubali 2 (2017). This achievement comes nearly eight years after the epic film set the gold standard for Indian cinema in the region.
The remarkable second-week surge highlights the film’s strong audience reception and exceptional word-of-mouth. While Baahubali 2 still holds the overall record as the highest-grossing Indian film in the circuit with a lifetime collection of USD 22 million, Dhurandhar’s ability to beat the crucial second Friday test underscores its momentum and repeat value.
Dhurandhar started its North American run strongly, opening to USD 522K on its first Friday and accumulating a solid first-week total of USD 4.4 million. With the latest collection figures, the film’s total gross in the territory is now well above the USD 5 million mark, solidifying its status as one of Ranveer Singh’s biggest overseas successes.
The military-action drama, directed by Aditya Dhar, boasts a power-packed ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt. Trade analysts are now keenly watching to see if Dhurandhar can maintain its pace as it races towards the coveted ₹300 crore global milestone.
