A court in Goa has ordered a fresh medical examination of the Luthra brothers, who are among the key accused in the high-profile nightclub fire case that claimed several lives and left many injured. The direction came after the defence raised concerns over the current health condition of the accused, citing the need for an updated and independent assessment.
The court instructed authorities to conduct a comprehensive health check-up at a government hospital and submit a detailed medical report within a stipulated time. The examination is expected to assess both physical and mental health parameters to determine the brothers’ fitness to remain in judicial custody and to participate in ongoing legal proceedings.
The prosecution opposed any leniency, arguing that earlier medical reports had already been submitted and that repeated examinations could delay the trial. However, the court observed that ensuring the well-being of the accused is a legal obligation and does not prejudice the course of justice.
The Luthra brothers were arrested in connection with the deadly fire that broke out at a popular nightclub in Goa, allegedly due to violations of safety norms and fire regulations. Investigators have claimed that inadequate fire safety measures, overcrowding, and failure to comply with licensing conditions contributed to the tragedy.
The case has drawn widespread public attention, with victims’ families demanding swift justice and strict action against those responsible. The court has scheduled the next hearing after the medical reports are submitted, following which it will decide on further custody and procedural matters.
Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is nearing completion and that accountability for the incident will be fixed based on evidence and the rule of law.
