NEW DELHI – In a dramatic escalation of her legal battle, the survivor of the 2017 Unnao rape case has approached the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the then-Investigating Officer (IO). The survivor alleges that the officer was “hand in glove” with the convict and former BJP MLA, Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
The complaint, submitted to the CBI on Saturday, December 27, 2025, accuses the official of conducting a dishonest and biased investigation designed to favor Sengar. This development comes just days after the Delhi High Court suspended Sengar’s life sentence and granted him bail, a decision that has sparked nationwide protests.
Allegations of Fabricated Evidence
In her detailed complaint, the survivor outlined several instances of alleged misconduct by the IO, claiming the officer introduced “deliberate lapses” to secure a favorable outcome for the accused:
Forged Documents: The survivor alleges the IO used forged school records in the chargesheet to misrepresent her age and student status.
False Testimonies: She claims the officer falsely attributed statements to her and wrongly stated she was using a specific mobile phone that she never owned or operated.
Sabotage: The complaint states that the probe was conducted with mala fides to discredit the survivor’s version of events and weaken the prosecution’s case.
“The complaint is that the investigating officer has wronged me. He colluded to ensure that the other party won, so that the rape victim would lose and her courage would be broken,” the survivor told reporters after submitting her application.
Legal and Political Backlash
The survivor’s move follows a wave of outrage over the Delhi High Court’s December 23 order. While Sengar remains in jail due to a separate 10-year sentence for the custodial death of the survivor’s father, the suspension of his life sentence in the rape case has been labeled “unfortunate and unjustifiable” by various political leaders and activists.
The CBI has already moved the Supreme Court to challenge the High Court’s bail order. Meanwhile, the survivor’s counsel, Mehmood Pracha, indicated that they are prepared to pursue the matter independently in the top court if necessary, alleging that the “full might” of certain institutional powers has been used to protect Sengar.
