The Union Budget for the financial year 2026–27 will be presented in Parliament on February 1, which falls on a Sunday, according to official government sources. Ahead of the budget, the Economic Survey—an annual document that reviews the state of the economy—will be tabled on January 29.
The Economic Survey, prepared by the Chief Economic Adviser and the finance ministry, is expected to provide a detailed assessment of macroeconomic trends, growth outlook, fiscal performance, and key policy challenges. It traditionally sets the tone for the budget by outlining the economic context and policy priorities.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present her eighth consecutive Union Budget. The upcoming budget is likely to focus on sustaining economic growth amid global uncertainties, boosting capital expenditure, supporting job creation, and maintaining fiscal discipline. Measures related to infrastructure development, manufacturing, green energy, and social welfare schemes are also expected to feature prominently.
The decision to present the budget on a Sunday follows parliamentary scheduling considerations and ensures sufficient time for post-budget discussions and legislative processes in the days that follow.
Markets, industry bodies, and policy analysts will closely track both the Economic Survey and the budget announcements for signals on taxation, government spending, reforms, and the overall economic roadmap for the coming year.
