Tensions flared on Saturday after a controversy surrounding the term “Ghooskhor Pandat” triggered protests in several areas, with demonstrators burning effigies of actor Manoj Bajpayee and filmmaker Neeraj Pandey. The protesters also issued threats to blacken the faces of the two, accusing them of hurting religious sentiments.
According to reports, the outrage stems from a recent creative work associated with the duo, which sections of the protesting group claim contains derogatory references. Chanting slogans and carrying placards, demonstrators demanded an immediate apology and corrective action, warning of intensified protests if their demands are not met.
Videos circulating on social media showed protesters setting effigies on fire and voicing strong objections, prompting local authorities to step in to maintain law and order. Police officials said security arrangements were strengthened in sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incidents.
So far, neither Manoj Bajpayee nor Neeraj Pandey has issued an official statement addressing the allegations. However, sources close to the creators said the content was being misinterpreted and was never intended to offend any community.
The incident has once again reignited the debate over creative freedom versus religious sensitivities in India’s entertainment industry. Cultural commentators have urged restraint, calling for dialogue instead of threats and street protests.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as investigations are underway to assess whether any laws were violated during the demonstrations.
