Bengaluru: A 32-year-old software engineer who had recently returned from the United States was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly stabbing two people to death inside a residential apartment complex in the city, police said.
The accused, identified as a tech professional working with a private IT firm, reportedly attacked the victims following a heated argument late Tuesday night. According to investigators, the confrontation escalated rapidly, leading the man to allegedly use a kitchen knife to assault them multiple times.
Residents alerted security personnel after hearing loud screams from the flat. Security staff immediately contacted local police, who rushed to the scene and took the suspect into custody. The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Preliminary police inquiries suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Officers said there were signs of a prolonged altercation inside the apartment, with furniture displaced and bloodstains found in multiple rooms.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Division) stated that the accused appeared to be in an agitated state when apprehended. “We have secured the weapon used in the crime and are recording statements from neighbours and acquaintances. The exact motive will be confirmed after a detailed investigation,” the officer said.
Police sources added that the man had returned to India a few months ago and was living alone. Investigators are also examining his recent interactions and mental health history as part of the probe.
A case of murder has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused has been produced before a magistrate. Further investigation is underway.
The shocking incident has left residents of the otherwise quiet neighbourhood shaken, with many calling for increased security and background verification within apartment complexes.
