The Indian Coast Guard on Wednesday intercepted a Pakistani fishing boat in Indian waters after it allegedly attempted to flee on being challenged during a routine maritime patrol, officials said.
According to sources, the Coast Guard vessel detected suspicious movement near the maritime boundary and signalled the fishing boat to stop for inspection. However, instead of complying, the boat reportedly tried to change course and speed away, prompting a chase by the Coast Guard.
After a brief pursuit, the Coast Guard successfully intercepted the vessel and detained its crew. Preliminary checks indicated that the boat had crossed into Indian territorial waters, a violation of maritime norms. The fishermen onboard were taken into custody for further questioning and legal proceedings.
Officials said such incidents are treated seriously due to security concerns in the sensitive maritime zone. The intercepted boat has been escorted to a nearby port, where a detailed investigation will be carried out by relevant authorities.
The Indian Coast Guard regularly conducts surveillance and patrols along the maritime boundary to prevent illegal fishing, smuggling, and unauthorized entry. Authorities reiterated that strict action would be taken in accordance with the law against vessels found violating India’s maritime limits.
