A reckless late-night drive by a teenager allegedly speeding at nearly 160 kmph triggered a major chain collision, leaving multiple vehicles damaged and several people injured, police officials said.
According to investigators, the incident occurred when the SUV lost control while overtaking at high speed. The vehicle first rammed into a car ahead before spinning across lanes and crashing into other moving vehicles. The impact caused a domino effect, with several motorists unable to brake in time.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash followed by successive collisions. “The SUV was moving extremely fast. Within seconds, it hit one car and everything turned chaotic,” one bystander said.
Emergency teams rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals. While no fatalities were reported, some victims suffered fractures and head injuries. The teenage driver, who reportedly survived with minor injuries, is currently under medical observation and police custody.
Preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and possible negligent driving. Authorities are also examining whether the driver had a valid licence and if the vehicle belonged to a family member. Legal action is likely under juvenile and motor vehicle laws.
Road safety experts have again highlighted the growing trend of underage and reckless driving, urging stricter enforcement and parental accountability. Officials said CCTV footage and forensic vehicle analysis will determine the exact sequence of events.
The report was first highlighted by The Times of India, drawing attention to increasing cases of dangerous speeding in urban areas.
