NEW DELHI, Dec 30, 2025 – In a significant strategic shift, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) officially entered the commercial mobility segment today with the launch of its dedicated taxi range, titled ‘Prime’.
The new lineup features two purpose-built models: the Prime HB (hatchback), based on the Grand i10 Nios, and the Prime SD (sedan), based on the Aura. The launch marks Hyundai’s first formal step into the fleet and taxi market, a territory traditionally dominated by Maruti Suzuki’s ‘Tour’ range.
Performance and Efficiency
The Prime range is engineered to prioritize low operating costs and high uptime—crucial factors for taxi entrepreneurs and fleet operators. Both models are powered by the reliable 1.2-litre Kappa 4-cylinder engine, offering a choice between petrol and factory-fitted CNG.
Prime HB: Delivers a fuel efficiency of 27.32 km/kg (CNG).
Prime SD: Delivers a fuel efficiency of 28.40 km/kg (CNG).
Hyundai claims an exceptionally low cost of ownership, estimated at just 47 paise per kilometer, making it one of the most cost-effective options in the segment.
Pricing and Availability
Hyundai has positioned the Prime range aggressively to appeal to budget-conscious commercial buyers.
Model Variant Ex-Showroom Price
Prime HB Hatchback ₹5,99,900
Prime SD Sedan ₹6,89,900
Bookings are now open across all Hyundai dealerships in India with a token amount of ₹5,000. To support commercial buyers, the company is offering flexible finance schemes with repayment tenures of up to 72 months.
Safety and Comfort Features
Despite being commercial vehicles, Hyundai has not compromised on safety or driver comfort. Both models come equipped with:
Safety: Six airbags (standard), rear parking sensors, rear defogger, central locking, and a company-fitted speed-limiting function (capped at 80 km/h).
Convenience: Rear AC vents, front and rear power windows, steering-mounted controls, and a Type-C fast USB charger.
Optional Extras: A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a rearview camera, and a vehicle location tracking device with panic buttons to meet regulatory standards.
Strategic Vision
“The Hyundai Prime range has been developed specifically with maximum uptime, predictable maintenance, and low operating costs in mind,” said Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO designate, HMIL.
To address the high-mileage usage typical of the taxi industry, Hyundai is offering a specially designed extended warranty covering the 4th and 5th year, or up to 1.8 lakh km. This is backed by Hyundai’s extensive nationwide service network, ensuring quick turnaround times for repairs and maintenance.
With this launch, Hyundai aims to capture a significant share of the growing commercial mobility market as ride-hailing services and fleet operations continue to expand across India’s urban and semi-urban landscapes.
