Iran Raises Doubts Over Pakistan’s Mediation Role Amid Rising Hormuz Tensions

Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Iran has reportedly raised concerns over Pakistan’s role as a mediator, questioning the intentions of Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir following recent developments around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan had positioned itself as a diplomatic bridge between Tehran and Washington, even facilitating communication and proposals aimed at de-escalation. However, Iran’s growing skepticism signals a lack of trust in Islamabad’s neutrality, especially as military and maritime movements in the region have intensified.

The Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints—has become a focal point of geopolitical strain. Ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel has severely disrupted shipping routes and heightened global energy concerns.  Against this backdrop, any perceived ambiguity in mediation efforts is being closely scrutinized.

Analysts suggest that Pakistan’s diplomatic approach reflects a delicate balancing act. While attempting to maintain ties with Iran, Islamabad is also seen as engaging with Western powers, particularly the United States. This dual strategy has led to allegations of a “double game,” with critics arguing that it undermines Pakistan’s credibility as a neutral intermediary.

Further complicating matters are reports that Pakistan’s earlier attempts to broker talks between Iran and the U.S. failed to gain meaningful traction, raising questions about its influence in shaping outcomes in the region.

Regional experts warn that mistrust between key players could weaken already fragile diplomatic efforts. With the conflict intensifying and the Strait of Hormuz remaining volatile, the effectiveness of any mediator will depend heavily on perceived impartiality—something Iran now appears to doubt in Pakistan’s case.

As tensions continue to rise, the spotlight remains firmly on Islamabad’s next moves and whether it can restore confidence in its role or risk being sidelined in one of the most critical geopolitical crises of the moment.
