Iran’s New Leader Signals Continued Military Pressure on Gulf States Amid Escalating War

Source The Hindu

The conflict between Iran and Israel continues to intensify as Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, declared that attacks on Gulf Arab countries will continue as part of Tehran’s ongoing military strategy in the region. The statement marks his first major message since assuming power during the ongoing war.

In his address, Khamenei warned that countries hosting United States military bases could face further attacks if those bases remain operational. He urged Gulf nations to shut down such facilities, saying they are being used to support operations against Iran.

The new leader also hinted that Iran could use strategic pressure points such as the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route, to counter what Tehran describes as aggression by Israel and its allies. Analysts say any disruption in this region could significantly impact global energy markets.

The war escalated after joint U.S. and Israeli strikes targeted Iran earlier this year, killing Iran’s long-time Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Since then, Iran has launched waves of missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, targeting Israeli positions as well as sites in several Gulf countries.

Several Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, have reported interceptions of missiles and drones in recent days. The expanding conflict has raised fears of a wider regional war and triggered concerns over global oil supplies and economic stability.

Meanwhile, international organizations and world leaders have urged restraint, warning that further escalation could lead to a prolonged humanitarian and energy crisis across the region. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but no immediate ceasefire appears in sight.
