Noida, India: A protest by workers demanding a wage hike turned violent in Noida on Monday, leading to chaos in several parts of the city. The demonstration, which initially began as a peaceful gathering, quickly spiraled out of control as tensions between protesters and authorities intensified.
According to officials, hundreds of workers had assembled to press for higher wages and improved working conditions. However, the situation deteriorated when a section of the protesters allegedly began vandalizing property and setting vehicles on fire. Eyewitnesses reported that multiple vehicles, including private cars and two-wheelers, were torched during the unrest.
Police forces were deployed to the affected areas to bring the situation under control. Authorities resorted to mild force, including lathi charges, to disperse the crowd. Several individuals were detained in connection with the violence, while some police personnel and protesters reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Senior officials stated that the situation is now under control, and additional security personnel have been stationed to prevent further escalation. Investigations are underway to identify those responsible for inciting violence during the protest.
Local administration has urged workers to maintain peace and assured that their concerns regarding wage hikes will be addressed through proper dialogue and legal channels.
