New Aerial Footage Reveals Gunman’s Final Moments Before Collapse on Bondi Bridge

Source India Today

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA — Shocking new aerial footage has provided a granular, minute-by-minute account of the final moments of one of the Bondi Beach attackers, showing him trembling, attempting to return fire, and eventually collapsing on the footbridge where the deadly terror incident unfolded on Sunday.

The horrific attack, which claimed 15 innocent lives and injured dozens during a Hanukkah celebration, has been meticulously reconstructed through a combination of bystander and newly verified aerial video clips. The footage offers a clear view of the chaotic scene and the final confrontation between the assailants and police.

The Attack Unfolds

The attack was allegedly carried out by a father and son duo, aged 50 and 24, who opened fire from a footbridge overlooking Archer Park on Campbell Parade. Eyewitness accounts and video show the men, armed with long-barreled rifles, initially firing into the crowd of over a thousand people gathered for the first night of the Jewish festival of lights.

According to a detailed review of the extended footage:

The Initial Barrage: The gunmen, one in black and one wearing white trousers, were seen positioned on the footbridge, unleashing a hail of bullets toward the park area shortly before 6:47 PM local time.

Heroic Intervention: In a moment of extraordinary bravery that has captured international attention, a 43-year-old bystander, identified as Ahmed Al Ahmed, snuck up on the older gunman who had descended from the bridge. The footage shows Al Ahmed tackling the gunman and wrestling his weapon away, causing the assailant to retreat back toward the bridge where his accomplice remained.

The Final Stand: Both gunmen were back on the bridge, exchanging fire with what is believed to be police and potentially an armed civilian who had recovered a weapon. The new aerial perspective reportedly captures the older gunman suddenly reeling back and collapsing after taking a shot.

Trembling and Collapse

The most striking element of the recently verified aerial footage focuses on the last moments of the younger gunman, Naveed Akram, who was dressed all in black. After his father collapsed, Akram continued to duck and return fire from behind the bridge’s stone railing.

The video is said to show him:

Visibly Distressed: The alleged attacker is seen trembling as he takes cover, struggling to maintain his position and repeatedly attempting to aim and fire his weapon.

The Final Shot: He reportedly stands up to fire one last time before a final volley of incoming gunfire is heard.

The Collapse: The footage then shows him crumpling and falling to the ground on the footbridge, lying still as the guns finally fall silent. This marked the effective end of the deadly rampage before unarmed bystanders and police swarmed the area.

Police confirmed that the 50-year-old father was shot dead by officers at the scene, while the 24-year-old son, who was seen collapsing in the footage, was arrested and taken to a Sydney hospital in critical condition. The attack has been officially declared an act of antisemitic terrorism by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and has sparked renewed calls for tightening Australia’s already strict gun laws.

The public has widely praised the actions of the “hero” bystander, Ahmed Al Ahmed, whose intervention potentially saved countless lives.
