New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Nabin has been elected as the party’s national president unopposed, marking a significant leadership transition at the helm of India’s ruling party. The formal announcement was made on Sunday after the completion of the nomination and scrutiny process, during which no other candidate filed papers for the post.
Nabin is set to officially take charge as BJP national president on January 20 at a ceremony to be held in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the event, underscoring the importance of the leadership change within the party’s organisational structure.
A seasoned politician and experienced organisational hand, Nitin Nabin has held several key positions within the BJP and is widely regarded as a leader with strong grassroots connect and administrative experience. His unopposed election reflects broad consensus within the party’s top leadership and cadre.
Party leaders said Nabin’s appointment comes at a crucial time, as the BJP looks to strengthen its organisational machinery and prepare for upcoming electoral challenges across states. Senior leaders expressed confidence that under his leadership, the party would continue to expand its footprint and reinforce its ideological and organisational foundations.
In his brief remarks after being elected, Nabin thanked the party leadership and workers for their trust and support. He said his focus would be on strengthening the party organisation, empowering booth-level workers, and ensuring effective coordination between the party and its governments.
The January 20 event is expected to see the presence of top BJP leaders, chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, and senior office-bearers, marking the beginning of Nitin Nabin’s tenure as the party’s national president.
