MUMBAI: The highly anticipated trailer for O’Romeo was unveiled on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, marking the return of the powerhouse duo—actor Shahid Kapoor and director Vishal Bhardwaj. The three-minute trailer offers a glimpse into a gritty, “Mumbai Western” world where romance is as sharp and dangerous as the blades carried by its protagonist.
The Fourth Collaboration
O’Romeo marks the fourth time Shahid Kapoor has teamed up with Vishal Bhardwaj, following their critically acclaimed work in Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon. This time, Shahid sheds his “chocolate boy” image entirely to play Haseen Ustara, a fierce, tattoo-clad contract killer and gangster who rules the shadowy underbelly of Mumbai.
A Dark Romance with a Violent Twist
The trailer introduces Triptii Dimri as Afsha (also referred to in reports as a character inspired by Sapna Didi), a woman in distress who approaches Ustara for a supari (contract) to eliminate a high-profile target. However, the narrative takes a dark, obsessive turn as the stone-hearted gangster falls head-over-heels for her. Their chemistry, described as a mix of “silence and restrained longing,” sits at the heart of the film’s “beautiful chaos.”
Powerhouse Ensemble Cast
The film boasts a stellar supporting cast:
Avinash Tiwary: Plays the primary antagonist, appearing in a striking matador-style sequence that suggests a savage, bull-fighting persona.
Nana Patekar: Portrays a seasoned character (reportedly a cop or rival figure) whose intensity is felt throughout the trailer.
Farida Jalal: Takes on a surprising role as Ustara’s grandmother, breaking her “goody-goody” image with sharp dialogue.
Special Appearances: The film features Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani (who sizzles in a dance number with Shahid), and Vikrant Massey, who appears in a “blink-and-miss” but impactful cameo.
Legal Controversies and Behind-the-Scenes Drama
The road to the trailer launch has not been without hurdles. The film is reportedly based on the life of gangster Hussain Ustara from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. This led to a legal notice from Sanober Shaikh, the daughter of the real-life Ustara, who alleged that the film inaccurately depicts her father.
Furthermore, the trailer launch event in Mumbai on Wednesday saw a moment of real-life drama when veteran actor Nana Patekar reportedly left the venue in frustration after a one-hour delay. Director Vishal Bhardwaj addressed the exit with humor, stating, “That’s what makes Nana Patekar the Nana Patekar.”
Music and Release
As with any Bhardwaj film, music plays a pivotal role. The soundtrack features a collaboration between Bhardwaj, legendary lyricist Gulzar, and singer Arijit Singh. The first song, ‘Hum To Tere Hi Liye The’, has already set a brooding, emotional tone for the film.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner, O’Romeo is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2026, just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend. It is expected to face a box-office clash with Bejoy Nambiar’s Tu Yaa Main.
