NEW DELHI/SYDNEY — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the “ghastly terrorist attack” that took place at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, targeting people celebrating the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. The incident, which Australian authorities have declared a terrorist attack, resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
In a statement released on Sunday, PM Modi expressed his profound grief and offered India’s solidarity with Australia during this difficult time.
“Strongly condemn the ghastly terrorist attack carried out today at Bondi Beach, Australia, targeting people celebrating the first day of the Jewish festival of Hanukkah,” the Prime Minister said. “On behalf of the people of India, I extend my sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the people of Australia in this hour of grief.”
India’s Zero-Tolerance Stance
Reiterating India’s unwavering position on global terrorism, PM Modi stressed the country’s “zero tolerance” policy towards all forms of terror.

Australian authorities confirmed that at least 12 people were killed in the shooting. Police reports indicate that two gunmen were involved, with one fatally shot by police at the scene and the second taken into custody in critical condition.
