The latest meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India highlighted the central bank’s continued focus on controlling inflation, with Governor Shaktikanta Das emphasizing that headline inflation remains the primary target for policymakers.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Das stated that managing inflation is the foremost objective of the RBI, as price stability is crucial for sustaining economic growth. He reiterated that while supporting growth remains important, it cannot come at the cost of rising inflationary pressures.
The Governor noted that global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions and fluctuating commodity prices, continue to pose risks to inflation trends. Domestically, factors such as food prices and supply-side disruptions are also being closely monitored.
The MPC maintained a cautious stance, signaling that future policy decisions would remain data-dependent. Das underlined that the RBI is prepared to act as necessary to ensure inflation aligns with the target range over the medium term.
Despite inflation concerns, the central bank acknowledged that India’s economic growth remains resilient. Strong domestic demand, improving investment activity, and stable financial conditions were cited as key positives.
The RBI’s message from the meeting was clear: keeping inflation under control is essential to maintaining macroeconomic stability, and it will remain the cornerstone of monetary policy going forward.
