Indore: Senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh minister Kailash Vijayvargiya faced strong public anger on the ground as he visited an area affected by severe water contamination in Indore, with residents accusing authorities of ignoring repeated complaints for days.
At the site, visibly upset locals confronted Vijayvargiya, saying they had continuously reported foul-smelling and polluted water supply but received no response from officials. “We complained for days, but no one listened. Only after people fell sick did the administration wake up,” one resident said, reflecting the widespread frustration in the locality.
The water contamination issue has reportedly led to several cases of illness, including stomach infections, forcing many families to rely on bottled water. Residents alleged that despite alerting the municipal corporation and local representatives, no preventive action was taken in time.
During the visit, Vijayvargiya assured residents that strict action would be taken against those responsible for negligence. He directed officials to immediately restore safe water supply and ordered an inquiry to identify the source of contamination. “No official will be spared if found guilty. The health and safety of citizens is our top priority,” he said.
Municipal officials accompanying the minister stated that emergency measures, including water tankers and pipeline flushing, have been initiated. Samples of the contaminated water have also been sent for testing, and affected pipelines are being repaired.
The incident has triggered a political row, with opposition parties accusing the state government of administrative failure and delayed response. They demanded compensation for affected families and a long-term solution to Indore’s water infrastructure issues.
As cleanup and restoration efforts continue, residents remain cautious and insist that assurances must translate into concrete action to prevent such incidents in the future.
