Seoul: Samsung Electronics has announced plans to significantly expand the number of its mobile devices powered by Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence platform, targeting as many as 800 million units this year. The move marks a major step in Samsung’s strategy to embed advanced generative AI features across its product ecosystem and strengthen its partnership with Google.
The South Korean tech giant said the rollout will cover a wide range of smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices, building on the initial integration of Gemini AI in its flagship Galaxy smartphones. Last year, Samsung devices with Gemini-powered capabilities stood at around 400 million units, making the new target a doubling of AI-enabled hardware within a single year.
Gemini, Google’s next-generation AI model, enables features such as real-time language translation, advanced photo and video editing, smarter voice assistance, and contextual search directly on devices. Samsung has been increasingly positioning these AI tools as a key differentiator in the highly competitive global smartphone market, where manufacturers are racing to offer more intelligent and personalized user experiences.
Industry analysts say the expanded deployment could help Samsung maintain its leadership in the Android ecosystem, especially as Apple and Chinese smartphone makers also ramp up investments in on-device AI. By tightly integrating Gemini with its One UI software, Samsung aims to deliver seamless AI-driven functions that work across apps and devices without relying heavily on cloud processing.
The announcement also underscores Google’s broader ambition to make Gemini a central pillar of the Android experience. With Samsung being the world’s largest smartphone maker by shipments, the expanded partnership could accelerate Gemini’s adoption globally and set new standards for AI features on mobile devices.
Samsung is expected to showcase more Gemini-powered capabilities at upcoming product launches later this year, including new Galaxy S and foldable models. The company said it will continue to work closely with Google to optimize performance, security, and privacy as AI becomes more deeply embedded in everyday consumer devices.
