Mumbai/Sangli: Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal have subtly broken their silence following the abrupt postponement of their wedding, by updating their respective Instagram bios with the same ‘evil eye’ emoji (🧿).
The matching cryptic update comes amidst a surge of speculation and rumours surrounding their relationship after their wedding, originally scheduled for November 23, 2025, was halted due to health emergencies in the Mandhana family.
A Symbolic Move Against ‘Nazar’
Both Mandhana and Muchhal added the nazar or evil eye emoji—a symbol traditionally used to ward off negative energy and ill will—to their profiles. This shared gesture is being widely interpreted by fans and media as a collective response to the intense scrutiny and unverified rumours that have dominated social media since the postponement.
Neither the cricketer nor the composer has issued a formal statement addressing the gossip.
Health Scare Led to Postponement
The wedding was put on hold just hours before the scheduled ceremony after Smriti Mandhana’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, suffered heart attack-like symptoms and was rushed to the hospital. Following this, Palash Muchhal was also briefly hospitalised due due to stress-related illness.
Muchhal’s mother, Amita Muchhal, has reassured fans that the wedding is only postponed and not called off. “Smriti and Palash are both in distress… Everything will be fine, the wedding will happen very soon,” she told a media outlet.
Rumours Fuelled by Social Media Activity
Speculation about the couple’s relationship intensified after Mandhana reportedly deleted all wedding-related posts, including engagement and proposal photos, from her Instagram account following the delay. This move, combined with the couple’s initial silence, gave rise to numerous unsubstantiated rumours circulating online.
The situation was further compounded by a clarification statement from the wedding choreographers, who denied any involvement in disrupting the couple’s relationship after their names were dragged into the online chatter.
Despite the uncertainty, the symbolic bio update marks the first unified and visible public act by Mandhana and Muchhal since the wedding was postponed. Both Mandhana’s father and Muchhal have now been discharged from the hospital, though a new wedding date is yet to be announced.
