A suo motu case has been registered against the management of Lulu Mall after Telugu film actor Nidhhi Agerwal was reportedly mobbed by an unruly crowd during a promotional event at the shopping complex. The incident, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, raised serious questions about crowd control and public safety at large commercial venues.
According to police officials, the case was taken up on their own initiative following preliminary inquiries and video footage that surfaced online. The visuals showed the actor being surrounded by a large crowd, with security personnel appearing overwhelmed as fans surged forward, forcing organisers to cut short the event.
Sources said Nidhhi Agerwal had visited the mall to promote her upcoming film when the situation spiralled out of control. Despite prior intimation about the actor’s appearance, adequate crowd management measures were allegedly not put in place, leading to chaos and potential risk to public safety.
“The mall management failed to ensure sufficient security arrangements despite anticipating a large turnout. This amounts to negligence,” a senior police official said. Authorities are examining whether standard safety protocols were violated and if permissions for the event complied with local regulations.
While the actor was safely escorted out without any reported injuries, the incident has triggered a broader discussion on the responsibility of event organisers and mall authorities when hosting celebrity appearances. Police have stated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
Lulu Mall management is yet to issue a detailed statement on the matter. Meanwhile, police have reiterated that strict action will be initiated against any lapses that endanger public safety, warning organisers to ensure robust security and crowd control measures for future events.
