CHENNAI – The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday officially published the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu following a rigorous Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The updated list confirms a total of 5.67 crore eligible voters in the state, a figure reached after the removal of nearly 70 lakh entries during the verification process.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Archana Patnaik released the data at the Secretariat, highlighting a significant cleaning of the rolls ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The Numbers at a Glance
The final tally stands at 5,67,07,380 electors. A notable trend in the data is the continued dominance of female voters in the state’s democratic profile.
Category Number of Voters
Female 2,89,60,838
Male 2,77,38,925
Third Gender 7,617
Total 5,67,07,380
Significant Deletions and Additions
The SIR exercise was designed to improve the “health” of the electoral roll by removing duplicate, deceased, and shifted voters.
Deletions: Approximately 70 lakh names were struck off the list. While the draft roll initially saw a higher number of flagged entries, the final revision accounted for claims and objections filed between December 2025 and January 2026.
New Additions: During the same period, the Commission added 27,53,796 new electors who submitted Form 6, ensuring that eligible citizens and first-time voters were included.
Demographics and Key Constituencies
The revision also highlighted specific segments of the population:
Young Voters: 12.51 lakh electors belong to the 18-19 age group.
Seniors & PwD: The list includes 3.99 lakh senior citizens (aged 85+) and 4.63 lakh persons with disabilities (PwD).
In terms of constituency size, Sholinganallur in Chengalpattu district remains the largest with 5,36,991 electors. Conversely, the Harbour constituency in Chennai recorded the lowest number of voters at 1,16,896.
Note to Voters: Citizens can verify their names in the final list by visiting the official [suspicious link removed] portal or using the Voter Service Portal.
