LOS ANGELES — The Game Awards 2025 delivered a night of massive announcements, confirming the return of beloved characters and introducing ambitious new projects set in fan-favorite universes. While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 dominated the awards ceremony, scooping up Game of the Year, the spotlight for new reveals belonged to Capcom, Crystal Dynamics, and a brand-new Star Wars venture.
Leon S. Kennedy Joins Resident Evil: Requiem
Ending months of intense speculation, Capcom officially confirmed that fan-favorite hero Leon S. Kennedy will be a playable character in the upcoming Resident Evil: Requiem, set for a February 27, 2026, release.
A new trailer showcased the “grizzled veteran zombie fighter” in action, confirming that his campaign will be more action-oriented, running parallel to the survival-horror storyline of the previously announced protagonist, FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft. The announcement comes after an earlier leak from the PlayStation Store, but the official reveal at the show finally gave fans a look at the older, battle-hardened Leon.
🏛️ Lara Croft Gets Double the Adventure
Lara Croft is set for a massive comeback, with Crystal Dynamics revealing two new Tomb Raider titles.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (2026): A full, ground-up reimagining of the original 1996 adventure, promising modernized gameplay, visuals, and storytelling while capturing the spirit of Lara’s iconic debut.
Tomb Raider: Catalyst (2027): The next mainline installment in the franchise, which marks a new direction for the series. Set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm, Lara will embark on an adventure across Northern India, navigating ancient forces and rival treasure hunters. Both titles will be published by Amazon Game Studios.
🌌 A Spiritual Successor to KOTOR Announced
One of the night’s biggest headlines was the reveal of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. Developed by the newly formed Arcanaut Studios in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the title is a single-player, narrative-driven action RPG described as a spiritual successor to the acclaimed Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Adding to the excitement, the project is being led by veteran director Casey Hudson, known for his work on the original KOTOR and the Mass Effect trilogy. Set near the tail-end of the Old Republic era, the game promises a new story with completely new characters, where player decisions will shape the path “towards light or darkness.”
Other major announcements included the reveal of Remedy’s Control: Resonant, Housemarque’s Returnal successor Saros with a confirmed April 30, 2026 release date, and Capcom’s return to the Blue Bomber with Mega Man: Dual Override.
