MUMBAI — Ahead of the anticipated trailer release for his upcoming historical drama Batwara 1947, actor Sunny Deol shared a touching message on social media dedicating the film to his mother, Prakash Kaur, and to mothers across the world.
Taking to Instagram, the 68-year-old action star posted a photograph alongside his mother accompanied by an emotional note written in Hindi:
“Meri maa hi mera Rab hain. Mera pyaar, mera hausla, meri taaqat. Batwara 1947 main apni Maa aur duniya ki har Maa ko samarpit karta hoon.”
(My mother is my God—my love, my courage, and my strength. I dedicate Batwara 1947 to my mother and to every mother in the world.)
Deol linked the emotional post directly to the thematic core of the upcoming film, which focuses on love, sacrifice, and human resilience during one of the subcontinent’s most tumultuous historical chapters.
High-Stakes Partition Drama
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 is adapted from Syed Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya. The story follows a Muslim migrant family relocating from Lucknow to Lahore during the 1947 Partition. Upon moving into an allotted haveli, they discover an elderly Hindu woman who refuses to abandon her ancestral home, setting off a narrative centered on compassion, co-existence, and shared humanity amid surrounding violence.
The film marks a significant cinematic reunion, bringing Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi back together nearly three decades after iconic collaborations like Ghayal and Damini.
