Kolkata: The 2026 West Bengal Assembly election results have brought a major political shift, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the dominant force in the state. Trends and declared results indicate that the party has secured a strong lead and moved close to, or beyond, the majority mark in the 294-member विधानसभा.
The ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, has seen a sharp decline compared to previous elections, though it continues to retain pockets of support across several constituencies.
According to election data, the BJP has won a large number of seats while leading in many others, reflecting a strong statewide performance. The TMC trails behind with significantly fewer seats, while parties like the Indian National Congress and Communist Party of India (Marxist) have remained marginal in the contest.
The constituency-wise winners list shows several key victories for BJP candidates across regions such as North Bengal and border districts. Notable wins include leaders like Nishith Pramanik from Dinhata and multiple BJP candidates securing seats in Cooch Behar and surrounding constituencies.
At the same time, the TMC has managed to hold ground in select seats, with candidates winning in areas such as Sitai and several southern constituencies, indicating that the contest remained competitive in parts of the state.
Polling for the elections was held in two phases, recording a high voter turnout of over 92%, highlighting strong public participation.
With the full list of winners now being released constituency-wise, the results underline a significant transformation in West Bengal’s political landscape. Attention will now shift to government formation, leadership decisions, and the policy direction of the incoming administration.
