MUMBAI — The first female-led installment in the YRF Spy Universe, Alpha, faced a reality check on its first crucial weekday test. After managing a respectable opening weekend, the action-thriller starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari witnessed a sharp decline in collections on Monday.
According to trade estimates, the film collected between ₹3.50 crore and ₹3.85 crore nett across India on Day 4. While the drop from Sunday’s peak is a steep ~70%, the single-day collection was just enough to push the movie’s total domestic net past the ₹37 crore mark.
The Breakdown: Four-Day Domestic Collection
The Shiv Rawail-directed spy thriller opened lower than traditional YRF Spy Universe standards but saw gradual growth over the weekend before hitting the Monday slowdown:
DayIndia Nett Collection
Day 1 (Friday)₹9.25 Cr
Day 2 (Saturday)₹11.50 Cr
Day 3 (Sunday)₹13.25 Cr
Day 4 (Monday)₹3.50 – ₹3.85 Cr (Estimated)
Total Net Collection₹37.50 – ₹37.85 Cr
Globally, the film has fared slightly better, pushing its worldwide gross past the ₹63 crore milestone, thanks to steady contributions from overseas markets. Notably, Alpha has already surpassed the lifetime global business of Alia Bhatt’s previous action outing, Jigra.
Mixed Word-of-Mouth Takes a Toll
While YRF’s heavy-handed action franchise entry initially drew crowds in urban multiplexes over the weekend, negative-to-mixed word-of-mouth caught up with the film by Monday. Critics have pointed out inconsistencies in the screenplay, noting that the movie heavily prioritizes shock value and rapid twists over coherent character arcs.
Furthermore, heavy monsoon rains in key circuits like Maharashtra heavily affected evening and night show occupancies on Monday, compounding the film’s theatrical struggle.
Looking Ahead
Trade analysts suggest that Alpha might see a minor, temporary bump on Tuesday due to “Blockbuster Tuesday” discounted ticket pricing schemes across major multiplex chains.
However, the real test lies ahead. The film needs to maintain a completely steady hold through the remaining weekdays to eye a ₹45–47 crore finish for its first week. Securing screens in week two will be a massive uphill battle, as the highly anticipated comedy franchise Dhamaal 4 is slated to arrive in cinemas this coming Friday, which will inevitably slash Alpha’s show allocations.
