KOCHI — Anticipation for superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming action spectacle Jailer 2 has reached a fever pitch in Kerala. Within just one hour of advance ticket sales opening across the state, the film recorded an astounding ₹1.61 crore in pre-sales, signaling a potential record-breaking opening day at the box office.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the high-octane sequel is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15. The makers have confirmed plans for an extensive rollout across Kerala, with approximately 800 screens lined up to cater to the massive rush.
The immense buzz surrounding the film in Kerala is largely driven by Malayalam cinema megastar Mohanlal reprising his pivotal role alongside Rajinikanth, following the resounding success of the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. In addition to Mohanlal, the sequel features a strong ensemble of Malayalam talent, including Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sunil Sugada, Sujith Shankar, Hakim Shah, Vineeth Thattil, Rajesh Madhavan, Mirnaa, Anna Reshma Rajan, and Shamna Kasim.
Sharing behind-the-scenes memories from the shoot, actor-mimicry artist Kottayam Nazeer recently revealed how warmly Rajinikanth received him on set, even spending time browsing through a book of Nazeer’s paintings.
“I am just as excited as you are. The thing is, we haven’t watched the entire film yet — I have only seen the portions during dubbing,” Nazeer shared, calling the entire experience of interacting with Rajinikanth “a dream.”
Theater owners across Kerala are adding early morning shows and expanding show allocations as pre-sales continue to surge ahead of the October 15 premiere.
