Bristol Showdown: Sanju Samson Returns to Bolster India’s Lineup in Must-Win 4th T20I

Source India Today

BRISTOL: Following a crushing defeat in Nottingham where they were bowled out for a meager 76 runs, Team India is gearing up for crucial strategic changes ahead of the fourth T20 International against England at Bristol. With the series on the line, the team management under captain Shreyas Iyer is expected to shake up the playing XI, bringing back experienced firepower while addressing recent structural weaknesses.

The major talking point ahead of Thursday’s encounter is the return of star wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson. Samson is set to re-enter the playing XI to inject some much-needed stability and aggression into a batting order that dramatically crumbled in the previous game.

Key Inclusions and Tactical Swaps

To accommodate Samson, under-fire vice-captain Tilak Varma is expected to sit out. Varma has found it difficult to get going in English conditions so far this series and will likely make way for the experienced keeper-batter. To maintain top-order balance, world No.1 ranked T20I batter Ishan Kishan may be pushed slightly down the order, giving Samson a prominent role in the middle overs.

Meanwhile, a second major change is brewing in the bowling department. Spinner Varun Chakravarthy is tipped to be replaced by spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar.

Tactical Insight: Swapping Varun Chakravarthy for Washington Sundar serves a dual purpose. Beyond Sundar’s restrictive powerplay off-spin, his presence provides much-needed batting depth to a lower-order that lacked resilience during the 3rd T20I collapse.

Youngsters Retain Selection Faith

Despite low returns of 14 and 13 runs in his introductory games, 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is expected to keep his place at the top of the order alongside Abhishek Sharma. The management is keen to give the young prodigy a fair run to showcase the explosive form that defined his recent IPL season.

The pace attack will continue to be spearheaded by left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh, alongside Harshit Rana and Lucknow Super Giants’ breakout pacer Prince Yadav, who impressed with a two-wicket haul in Nottingham.

India’s Predicted Playing XI for 4th T20I:

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Abhishek Sharma

Sanju Samson (WK)

Ishan Kishan

Shreyas Iyer (C)

Shivam Dube

Axar Patel

Washington Sundar

Harshit Rana

Arshdeep Singh
