Sources indicate that the Centre is keen to avoid triggering political friction with influential opposition parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), both of which are expected to play a significant role in upcoming discussions on the redrawing of parliamentary constituencies.
The FCRA, which regulates foreign funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other entities, has been a subject of debate in recent years. While the government has defended the law as a tool to ensure transparency and accountability, critics have argued that stringent provisions could impact civil society organizations and their functioning.
Insiders suggest that any aggressive push to tighten FCRA norms at this stage could alienate regional parties whose cooperation may be crucial for navigating the politically sensitive process of delimitation.
