The anticipation surrounding director Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological magnum opus Ramayana reached new heights following its showcase panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. However, fans eagerly awaiting the cinematic showdown between Ranbir Kapoor and Kannada star Yash will have to hold their breath a little longer.
Speaking during an interactive session at Comic-Con, Ranbir Kapoor, who portrays Lord Ram, revealed that he and Yash—who essays the formidable role of Ravana—have yet to film their defining confrontation sequence.
The Ultimate Clash Saved for the End
Addressing the audience about sharing screen space with the K.G.F. actor, Ranbir clarified that their characters will not come face-to-face until late in the narrative.
“Lord Rama and Ravana will be appearing together at the end of the film, with maybe a meeting in the middle,” Kapoor shared. “But we haven’t shot that. So, we haven’t had the opportunity to work together yet.”
Despite having no shared scenes on set so far, Ranbir expressed deep admiration for Yash’s commanding presence and praised his distinct take on the iconic antagonist.
“I have known Yash for some time now and I have been a big fan of his work,” Kapoor noted. “I truly believe that we needed somebody with his aura, his stardom, and his outlook to play this role. He has played it with so much swag, aura, and honesty that he has really made Ravana come alive. Over the years, we have had a very stereotypical depiction of Ravana, but not this one.
A Global Spectacle in Two Parts
Mounted on a massive budget, Ramayana is being produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios. The project has been structured as a two-part cinematic event, designed to bring the ancient Indian epic to a global audience with world-class visual effects.
The scale of the project was recently highlighted by the announcement of a international partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which will handle global theatrical distribution. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, the star-studded ensemble features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman.
Ramayana: Part 1 is slated to hit theaters worldwide during Diwali 2026, with the concluding chapter scheduled for release during Diwali 2027.
